Have you ever received a special gift? A gift you had been waiting a long time for. You waited and waited. Finally, someone gave it to you. Did you remember to say “thank you”?
Think of a time someone did something nice for you. Maybe you were feeling sick, and someone took special care of you. Did you remember to say “thank you”?
Just by saying the two little words “thank you,” you can make somebody happy. Saying thank you tells people you appreciate what they have done. It lets them know you care.
In the month of November, we celebrate the holiday of Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a time for us to look back and say thank you for everything we appreciate in our lives. When I say everything, I mean everything. From our family to our favorite toy.
Make a list of everything you are thankful for. Making a list helps to remind you how much God has blessed you. I think God smiles when we show Him we are thankful. You can print this worksheet out to help you get started “I Am Thankful For…”
We don’t always get everything we want. Things don’t always go our way. During these times we have a choice to make. We can choose to have a bad attitude, or we can choose to be thankful. I want to encourage you to be thankful. When people see you are thankful, it helps teach them to be thankful too.
In the Bible, 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 tells us to “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
Did you catch the part where it says “give thanks in all circumstances?” This scripture means, no matter what is going on in your life, you should always be thankful. I know this can seem hard to do at times. Saying thank you isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when we are having a bad day.
If you believe God is taking care of you, you have to trust him, even when things don’t always go the way you want them too. God knows everything. He knows what is best for you. I hope you will remember to be thankful all year long, and not just during Thanksgiving. I hope you will choose to be thankful even when you do not want to be.
God gave us a special gift, a gift above all other gifts. There is absolutely nothing that can compare to the gift that God has given us. Do you already know what that gift is? God gave us His one and only Son Jesus. He loved us so much that He was willing to send His own Son to die on the cross for us. Don’t forget to tell God thank you for sending Jesus, and don’t forget to tell Jesus “thank you” for coming!
