We live out in the country on a dead end road with no street lights. There are a few lights here and there from the neighbor’s homes, but otherwise, it’s pretty dark. When I take the dogs out at night, sometimes I have to take a flashlight. The light from our porch only reaches so far, and it doesn’t take long before I can’t see them.
Some nights it is so dark you can only see a few feet in front of you. You can look out the back windows and all you can see is…darkness. If a storm comes through and the electricity goes out, it gets even darker. You can look down the road and it is in complete darkness. You don’t see anyone or anything. It kind of makes you feel isolated and alone.
Yet it is in this darkness that I can go outside and see the stars in the night sky the best. If the sky is clear, you can see stars for miles and miles shining bright and twinkling. Sometimes I just stand in wonder and amazement at the beauty of God’s creation.
We can’t keep looking at all of the darkness around us, if we do we miss the stars, we miss their light. We need to be aware of the darkness, but we focus on the light. When the world we live in seems dark, we don’t have to live in darkness. We have hope, we have joy, we have THE light.
In John 12:46 Jesus stated, “I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the dark.”
Jesus warned that there would be trials and tribulations in this world. We are going to have to go through some “stuff” in this world. Sometimes there is just no way around it. We can’t focus on those storms and the darkness that can come with them.
“Even in darkness light dawns for the upright, for those who are gracious and compassionate and righteous.” Psalm 112:4
On a dark cloudy night, you can’t always see the stars, but they are there. Don’t look at your circumstances. Don’t focus on what is going on in the world. Keep your eyes focused on Jesus. He is our source of strength, our source of hope, and He is always there.
